White & Neutral Sarees
A note from Swtantra
The quiet power of neutrals
Neutrals do a lot of quiet work. White with red is the look of Durga Puja in Kolkata, cream with gold belongs to Onam, and a silver sequin drape can steal a cocktail party. We stock the whole family: white, ivory, cream, champagne, grey, silver, coffee and chocolate.
For festivals, our Onam cream gold zari saree and the white and red cotton kadwal are the classics. The white chiffon with gota patti handwork is a fresh pick for a daytime puja. More festival pieces sit in our pooja sarees.
Come evening, the knitted sequin sarees in cream, white with silver and shades of grey really sparkle. The champagne dual-shade satin with pendants is softer, and the chocolate gold halter dress saree is pure fun.
White and cream are a blank canvas, so let the blouse set the mood. Red or emerald makes it festive, and black gives a graphic monochrome look. A cream drape is also the best base for bold jewellery. Our cream and beige blouses and black blouses are good places to start.
Good to know
Can I wear white to a wedding?
Ivory, cream and champagne are popular with guests, especially with gold or colourful blouses. Some families avoid all-white at weddings, so add colour if you're unsure.
Which saree should I wear for Onam?
A cream saree with gold zari is the traditional choice. Our Onam cream gold zari saree comes with self blouse fabric.
How do I stop a white saree turning yellow?
Store it wrapped in muslin, away from damp and direct sunlight. Dry cleaning is safest for sequin or embellished pieces.
