Embroidered Sarees
Styling notes
Needlework you can feel
Embroidery gives a saree texture you notice with your fingertips as much as your eyes. On this page the needlework is the main event, whether it sits on the body, the border, the pallu or the blouse fabric.
Our scalloped nets in jade, mulberry wine and angel white are a lovely place to start. The organza chiffons carry cut dana work that continues onto the blouse fabric. At the very top, pure silk chiffon ombres are finished with hand embroidery and gold taari jaal.
Let the amount of work guide the occasion. Butter chiffons with embroidered blouse fabric suit a birthday dinner or a festive day at the office. Scalloped nets and cut dana organzas are for engagements and receptions. Save the silk chiffons for the family weddings that matter most.
When the saree is busy, stitch a plain blouse in the same tone with a sweetheart or deep U neck. For gota and hand beading as well, see our handwork and beaded sarees. Or pair a simpler drape with one of our embroidered blouses.
Good to know
What is cut dana work?
Cut dana uses tiny faceted glass beads stitched onto the fabric. It gives a fine glint that catches the light without looking heavy.
Is the embroidery done by hand?
It varies. Product titles say hand embroidery or hand beading wherever it applies, so do check each page.
How should I store an embroidered saree?
Fold it with soft cotton or muslin between the layers and keep it away from damp, so the threads don't catch or dull.
