The satin kurtas with gold buttons come in a wide spread of colours, from boss black and splash blue to blush and fawn. Korean fabric is more matte, with a hidden placket or gold buttons. Sequin kurtas in rama and wine are for night functions. The reversible ones close with snaps and give you two colours in one.
Satin suits evenings, while Korean fabric looks smart in daylight. If he isn't a fan of shine, a Korean kurta with a hidden placket is the answer. Pick his shade from your saree border, or choose a jewel tone that sits well beside yours.
